CHARLES TYLER -- 409-880-3830The Crimes Against Persons Unit investigates violence against individuals ages 17 and older, including assault, kidnapping, homicide, threats, harassment and robbery. GARY WAGNER -- 409-880-3830The Crimes Against Property Unit investigates crimes involving citizens' personal property, including burglary, theft, auto theft, financial fraud and criminal mischief. This unit is responsible for the largest number of reported cases investigated. Return To Top Of PageAUTO THEFT TASK FORCECONTACT: LT. J.R. SMITH -- 409-842-6341The Southeast Texas Auto Theft Task Force is a multi-jurisdictional, multi-agency unit comprised of officers from the Beaumont Police Department, the Pt. Arthur Police Department, the Jefferson County Sheriff's Department and the Orange County District Attorney's Office. The task force is funded by authority of the Texas Automobile Theft Prevention Authority. Along with enforcement, the task force also offers an extensive crime prevention program to the area. The crime prevention officer is responsible for community presentations, media relations and administering the Texas Help End Auto Theft (H.E.A.T.) Program. H.E.A.T. is a statewide motor vehicle registration program in which two decals are affixed to the owner's vehicle. These decals represent the owner's written consent for any peace officer to stop the vehicle if observed being operated on any Texas highway between the hours of 1 a.m. and 5 a.m. for the purpose of identifying the driver. Officers in this unit investigate all crimes committed against and by juveniles (ages 16 and under) as well as all sex crimes, adult and juvenile. Return To Top Of PageIDENTIFICATION UNITCONTACT: SGT. LEONARD BROOKSHIRE -- 409-880-3869The Identification Unit is responsible for the collection and preservation of crime scene evidence. In addition to processing fingerprint evidence, the unit also processes and categorizes photography evidence. The unit is currently using the AFIS system in identifying suspects through fingerprint evidence. Return To Top Of PageFAMILY VIOLENCECONTACT: SGT. KAREN FROMAN -- 409-880-3883In August 1996, the Beaumont Police Department's Family Violence Unit opened its doors for the first time. The unit is located in the Central Park Building at the corner of Fourth and Fannin. The unit is responsible for the investigation of all family violence offenses. The unit works in conjunction with the Family Violence Unit of the Jefferson County District Attorney's Office. Family Services, Victims Assistance, and the Women's and Children's Shelter of Southeast Texas are a few of the social service agencies which work with the unit.
