CITIZEN'S POLICE ACADEMY

The Citizens Police Academy is a joint effort between the Beaumont Police Department, the Pt. Arthur Police Department, the Jefferson County Sheriff's Department and the Lamar University Criminal Justice Institute. The curriculum spans 13 weeks. Any resident of Jefferson County can apply to attend the Citizens Police Academy which exposes all attendees to various aspects of law enforcement. There is no cost for the class. There are 13 Thursday night classes which run from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. each night and two Saturday morning sessions. You must be at least 21 years of age to apply.

After you complete the Citizens Police Academy, you then become eligible to join the Tri-Agency Citizens Police Academy Alumni Association which is now 100 members strong and growing. There are additional training, community service and friendship opportunities in this organization.
