Subject:Detectives pursuing leads in overnight capital murder
At about 9:27 Thursday evening, Patrol Officers responded to a reported shooting outside a house in the 1000 block of Prairie Street. When Officers arrived, they discovered five gunshot victims. Three men were deceased at the scene and two men suffered multiple gunshot wounds. Beaumont EMS transported them to St. Elizabeth hospital for treatment. E.R. physicians treated and released one of the men. The second man was transferred to UTMB Galveston with multiple gunshot wounds to his upper body and a gunshot wound to his lower body.
Witnesses, who were not injured, reported that several men were playing dominos outside the residence when several other men confronted them. During the confrontation, multiple gunshots were fired. There were also three children inside the house at the time of the shooting. None of the children suffered injury. We released those children to the custody of family members.
At this early stage of the investigation, we are still working to identify the victims and determine a motive for the shooting. We are searching for a dark colored SUV that fled the scene immediately after the shooting. Witnesses saw several males leave in the vehicle and as it was driving west on Prairie, it sideswiped a parked vehicle. This SUV may have extensive damage to the front left and driver’s side.
Detectives are interviewing witnesses and one of the victims. Prosecutors and Investigators with the Jefferson County District Attorneys Officer are assisting with our investigation. The Jefferson County Crime Lab is assisting our Crime Scene Unit in the gathering and analysis of evidence. Our Traffic Unit is also assisting in the investigation in the processing and mapping of the extensive crime scene.
Any person with information about this incident is asked to contact our department at 832-1234. Anonymous tips can be left by calling Crime Stoppers at 833-TIPS.
We will be processing the scene through the morning. If any breaks occur during the investigation we will release it as soon as possible. PIO's will not be available to answer any routine follow-up information until AFTER 11:00 am on Friday, June 28.
