Subject:Officers respond to man armed with a rifle
Late this morning, at about 10:00 am, multiple concerned citizens reported that a man standing near the intersection of Highway 105 at the Eastex Freeway Service Road was armed with a rifle.
Patrol officers arrived in the area, located the man, and temporarily detained him. He was dressed in a banana costume and had an AK-47 rifle slung across his back. The rifle had a drum magazine attached with at least a 50-round capacity. Officers were able to determine that the young man was attempting to soliciting business for a local tactical and security store.
Officers cited the eighteen-year-old Beaumont man for violation of a city ordinance that prohibits soliciting in and alongside roadways. Officers also gathered the necessary information on the weapon and completed paperwork for consultation with the Jefferson County District Attorney’s Office concerning possible future criminal charges related to his display of the firearm.
