The Traffic Unit works to enforce the traffic laws of the City
and State as well as enforcing DOT regulations on all commercial vehicles that
travel upon the public roadways. In addition this Unit investigates all traffic

The Animal Services Unit,
formerly known as Animal Control, came under the Police Department in December
2008. Since that time, this Unit has been upgraded not only in equipment and
uniforms, but in mission. The Unit is responsible for the enforcement of the
city's ordinances related to animals and to eliminate nuisances and threats to
the public resulting from animals running at large or kept in unsafe conditions.

The Beaumont Police Department Special Response Team was
created to address Civil Disorder Issues. The duties have grown to providing
support for SWAT during callouts and providing support for SWAT during the
execution of Narcotics Search Warrants. The team is also tasked with Dignitary
Protection Details. During Hurricane Rita and Hurricane Ike the Special Response
Team was assigned Site Security Details that entailed providing security for
Evacuation and Repatriation Sites. They were also responsible for providing
security at sites that distributed Food, Ice, and Water.
The Team is staffed with twenty one officers that include one
Lieutenant, one Sergeant, two team leaders, two assistant team leaders and a
tactical medic.

The Beaumont Police
Department’s Resource Unit is a unique, multi-faceted unit, tasked with a wide
variety of assignments. The unit’s mission is to reduce crime by eliminating
"havens" of criminal activity that are hidden from the view of law enforcement,
such as abandoned or condemned structures. This is accomplished by demolishing
and removing these structures and/or areas, throughout the city of Beaumont. The
Resource Unit, AKA, The Demolition Unit, is a long standing, joint operation
between the Beaumont Police Department and the Jefferson County Sheriff’s
Department.

The Street Crimes Unit addresses crime issues through proactive law
enforcement measures. Through crime analysis, high crime areas or crime patterns
are identified and various tactics such as zero tolerance and intelligence
gathering are used to combat the problem. In addition to these duties, Street
Crimes serves as the department's bicycle patrol unit and may be seen riding in
neighborhoods, around the Mall area at Christmas or Downtown during special
events.

Each year many officers participate in the Santa In
Blue Program in which collected toys and clothing are distributed to needy
children throughout the City of Beaumont.

The Beaumont Police Department Honor Guard is a group of
specially selected Officers of the Beaumont Police Department who have been
chosen to represent The City of Beaumont, its citizens, as well as the members
of the Beaumont Police Department when special circumstances arise.

The Honor
Guard is primarily activated in times of grief, when an Officer has made the
ultimate sacrifice protecting those he serves. The Honor Guard may also be
activated when ever the Chief feels it would be appropriate to perform
ceremonial services in a Police related function. |

The Beaumont Police Department SWAT Team was
formed in the early 70's. Members of the SWAT Team came from every division
within the Department , as they do now. The Team was formed to counter an ever
increasing rise in violence and weapons used by criminals.
The current Beaumont Police Swat Team consists of 22
officers. Each member has regular duties within the department and are on 24
hour call , as needed . The Team members train together each month and attend
training schools to maintain skills and to learn new techniques.
