The Traffic Unit is comprised of
12 officers, 1 sergeant and 1 lieutenant. The unit is
responsible for the specialized enforcement of traffic
laws, investigation of all traffic related fatalities,
and follow-up investigation of hit and run crashes. The
Traffic Unit is also responsible for the security of the
Beaumont Municipal Court, with two full time court
bailiffs and one full time warrant officer assigned to
the court. Traffic Unit officers are D.O.T. certified
and are charged with enforcing Federal and State Motor
Carrier Laws.
There are 6 motorcycle officers in the
unit. 3 officers are certified in crash reconstruction
and all Traffic Unit officers are certified in advanced
crash investigation. Officers frequently provide
escorts for parades, military convoys, and dignitary
motorcades. The unit has 2 officers who are certified
as RADAR/LIDAR instructors and conduct all training for
the department in RADAR and Laser speed measurement.
In addition to these duties, the Traffic
Unit is also responsible for the review and approval of
all parade, block closure, and charitable solicitation
permit applications. These permits are issued in
accordance with City of Beaumont ordinances which can be

notice.
The Traffic Unit is also responsible for
oversight of wrecker and tow companies as well as taxi
companies permitted to operate in the City of Beaumont.
All permits for wrecker, tow and taxi services are
issued through the Traffic Unit Office located at 700
